艾瑞克萊普頓在西洋樂壇素有"吉他之神"的美譽,而這首Tears in heaven是Clapton Eric 為了紀念在1991年意外墮樓死亡的4歲兒子。有兩句歌詞是這樣的：「Beyond the door; There’s peace I’m sure; And I know there’ll be no more; Tears in heaven(在天堂大門裡面，我相信只會是一片寧靜。天堂內只有快樂，沒有悲哀)」。
後來，艾瑞克萊普頓參與電影「Rush」（台灣並未公映）配樂的編寫，在他的堅持下，這首歌出現在電影中，並成為他有史以來最暢銷的單曲，曾在告示牌雜誌的百大單曲榜上連續四週高掛亞軍，售出數百萬張。兒子去世一年後，艾瑞克萊普頓應MTV頻道之邀，舉辦不插電演唱會，演唱了這首曲子，真情流露思子之心，感動了在場及電視機前的所有歌迷。因為這首歌，這場演唱會的實況錄音於一九九二年八月發行成專輯後，在告示牌專輯榜上留連了超過兩年，全球共售出一千萬張。
